Students Unite for Write a Book in a Day

Our flagship event for Book Week each year is the annual Write a Book in a Day competition - a unique opportunity for collaboration and creativity, bringing together more than 80 students at both campuses. 

Working in teams, students developed stories from start to finish in just 12 hours last Wednesday, demonstrating teamwork and imagination under real-time pressure. The resulting books reflected the students' commitment, resilience and their ability to bring ideas to life against the clock.

The library was abuzz with creative energy throughout the day, with excitement and just a touch of panic setting in as the deadline loomed. 

By 8pm, all SFCC teams had completed the task successfully, once again helping raise funds for childhood cancer research.

Here is what Year 10 Melton student Rachel thought about the event:

“Taking part in Write a Book in a Day 2026 was such an amazing and memorable experience. This was my first time participating, so I wasn’t completely sure what to expect going into the day, but I ended up really enjoying it. 

"My favourite part was creating the characters and seeing all the different ideas everyone brought to the story. I especially enjoyed working together as a team and watching our ideas evolve into something we could all be proud of. 

"It was really exciting to see how much we could accomplish in just one day, and even though it was a long day, it was completely worth it. I’m really glad I decided to take part, and this may be my first Write a Book in a Day, but there will definitely be many more to come!”

You can read the students' completed stories below and make a donation to the teams up until 30 September. Each team must raise a minimum of $240 in sponsorship to be eligible for competition prizes, with all funds going to childhood cancer research.
