Pouches Sewn with Love for Wildlife

Our Year 8 Textiles students at both campuses participated in a special joey pouch incursion, putting their sewing skills into action to support Australian wildlife in need.

After learning about threatened and endangered Australian species, students used their new sewing skills to design and construct joey pouches for injured and orphaned wildlife.

Half of the pouches were donated directly on the day, while the remaining pouches will be sent to Animal Rescue Cooperative in New South Wales, which will distribute them to smaller animal rescue organisations on our behalf.

This semester alone, students across our Cobblebank and Melton campuses have made nearly 300 joey pouches.

Combined with the hundreds of pouches students have created over previous semesters and the past few years, their collective contribution has become a significant and ongoing source of support for wildlife rescue organisations.

What began as a textiles project has become an opportunity for students to develop practical skills while making a genuine difference in their community.

Through their creativity, perseverance and willingness to help, our students are demonstrating that the skills they learn in the classroom can have a meaningful impact far beyond it.
